Advantages of Split Systems

Environmental Blog

Air conditioning (AC) systems can be a great source of relief, when the harsh Australian climate has become intolerable. During the hottest summer season or coldest season these units ensure that you and your home are experiencing just the right temperature. There are many types of AC units in the market, one of the most common being split systems.

What are split systems

These AC systems, which are also known as ductless or multi-split systems perform the same function as other AC units. However, these are distinguished by their design, which is a three part design, consisting of:

  • An outdoor cabinet, which houses the air conditioner's compressor and the condenser
  • An air handler, whose function is to send cool air through the duct system
  • An indoor cabinet, which houses the evaporator coil

What are the advantages of ductless systems?

  • Flexibility: multi-split systems are highly flexible as they can be placed in different zones of a building. Their outdoor units are rather small and can therefore, be mounted in any area of a room. There flexible nature has made the split systems a favorite choice for new home constructions, home additions, restaurants and also apartments.
  • Improved indoor air quality: there are times when the quality of the air indoors is of poor quality than the air in the outdoors. The ductless system has a multi-stage filtration process which reduces the amount of bacteria, pollen, dust and other particles in the air, making the air indoors as good as the one in the outdoors, or even better.
  • Saves money: when compared to their counterparts such as the central AC unit, split units save you money in the long run. These systems operate on less power than other older AC models; because there are smaller and most have temperature control. Temperature control delivers air directly into a room, hence no energy is lost. Ductless systems also allow you to create "zones" in your home, therefore rooms that are unoccupied will not have to be unnecessarily cooled or heated.
  • Easy and quick to install: installing the traditional ducted system usually takes up to several weeks, as sometimes ceilings and walls have to be redesigned in order to house the unit. The good news, is that split systems do not require such time consuming and vigorous work, due to their compact nature.

Split systems have the advantage of being energy efficient, thus good for the environment and good for your pocket; they are also completely customizable making them an excellent choice for the "décor sensitive" home owner. But above all, they can offer you comfort throughout the year, no matter the season.

Thinking About The Environment

If you are interested in saving the planet, you are in the right place. It is all too easy to go through life without giving your impact on the environment a second thought. I used to be like that. However, since attending a lecture about environmental change, I have decided to do the best I can to reduce my impact on the world. I called in a company which specialises in green energy and environmental protection. They assessed my home and made some recommendations. I decided to have a solar panel and water heater installed on the roof of my property. I am really pleased with how these are performing.
